Welcome to the Atlanta Emerging Librarians Meet-up Group!
Upcoming Meetings:
The next meeting will be taking place on January 15th, 2009, from 6:00-7:30 at Manuel’s Tavern (http://www.manuelstavern.com/) in Atlanta. We’re trying a new format this time; eight local library administrators will be asked to attend, present information on their libraries, and mingle informally with attendees. Food will be provided. Registration is limited to forty, so please register early for this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about and meet your potential future employers! Registration will be open in December; if it is open, you can use the box below.
Background Information:
Formed in early 2008, this group is intended to create in-person connections between distance education library, information, and media science students and new graduates living in the Atlanta area. The group will meet every 2-3 months, and will provide time for mingling, snacking, and a presentation. Presentation topics will be determined by the group’s members. The first meeting took place on April 12, 2008, at the Mechanicsville branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library system. Twenty-nine students and recent graduates attended. The group discussed topics for future meetings, and Sarah Steiner discussed opportunities for pre-graduation involvement in the profession (via committee service, event planning, and publication).
The second meeting took place on July 12, 2008, at Georgia State University Library. Fifty-one students and recent graduates attended. Belinda DeLisser and Kristine Greene of Cadence Group presented on interview skills and Jason Puckett of Emory University presented on creating e-portfolios.
