Registration Form Dear GLA Members, I’d like to invite each of you to the Georgia Library Association Annual Mid-Winter Planning Conference (GLAAMPC) on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the lovely Downs Continuing Education Center at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. This kick-off meeting for 2010 is an important event for ALL members - NEW and OLD (not old old…I mean old hands…I mean those with more experience…okay, and just OLD). You will have the opportunity to commit to Committees, devise in your Divisions and show interest in your Interest Groups, as well as connect with colleagues from all over our State as we move forward through the year. Can we really go into the future without first taking a trip back in Georgia’s great library history? Our keynote speaker, Dr. James (Jim) V. Carmichael, Jr., Professor at The University of North Carolina, Greensboro, Department of Library and Information Studies AND Georgia native (whew!), will be presenting “Georgia, Queen of Benighted Southern Libraries, 1895-1945”. He will give us a very entertaining look at those who have come before us. The meeting will be held from 9:00am to 2:15pm. There is a registration fee of $25, which will include a continental breakfast and a hot lunch buffet. Registration forms must be received by January 22, 2010 to assure your lunch reservation. The breakfast and registration period runs until 9:45am when the business meeting gets under way. Members of the GLA Board will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 after the planning meeting concludes. Regardless if you are able to attend or not, please return your Committee Preference form by January 22nd to let me know how you would like to serve. Although you may miss out on a day of social networking the old fashioned way—yes, Face to Face-not Facebook to Facebook, know that your involvement is still much needed. Committees will meet electronically, and if the need arises will meet again in person to complete necessary charged tasks, so don’t feel like you’ll miss out on everything. I can’t…no, I won’t do this WITHOUT YOU! I look forward to working with you this year. Let me know your ideas for a great GLA!
