There are several upcoming opportunities to advocate for Georgia’s libraries:
• Tuesday, January 30th: Public Library Day at the Capitol. Join the Georgia Council of Public Libraries to talk about the role and value of public libraries at their annual Varsity hot dog give-away. GPLS annual awards will also be presented during a Noon (-ish) ceremony in the South Wing staircase.
• GLA’s own Library Day, where the Mumford Prints are distributed at each legislative office, will be held later during the legislative session. Stay tuned for more details!
• Monday and Tuesday, May 7-8th: National Library Legislative Day in Washington, D.C. ALA’s annual advocacy event includes a full day of briefings on Monday. Tuesday we visit each of Georgia’s 16 Congressional offices and make the case for continued federal support of libraries, especially LSTA funding.
It’s great to have many voices from across the state, and across the profession, at all of these events.
