Description: In the spring of 2022, our librarians had to deselect $300,000 in databases. This presentation will cover the process the librarians went through on which databases to deselect and reflect on the academic impacts of losing those databases two years later, and what we could do differently next time if, and when, we must cancel more databases.
About the Presenter: Gretchen Gould is the Collections Coordinator and a Collection Strategist Librarian at the University of Northern Iowa. She has been in her current role for nine years. She is responsible for the overall library materials budget and also selects materials for education and social & behavioral sciences. In addition, she works with vendors and the university to negotiate license agreements for electronic resources. She has a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Arts in History from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Pacific.
